Wakfu is one of the most popular and successful MMOs on mobile. The developer just announced a new update that will feature level cap increase, five brand-new adventure islands, and many other improvements!

It’s not every day that the strangest MMORPG in town gets a sneak peek at a major update, but that day came this week when Ankama teased Wakfu’s 1.74 release, which raises the level cap to 230 and adds five new islands with content, dungeons, gear, and quests for endgamers, as well as UI customization.

“Explore forgotten regions of the Shustuft Crust, away from the prying eyes of Rushu, who’s more interested in looking at his own navel (fun for a while, but there’s such a thing as overdoing it),” Ankama writes. “There’s enough to explore – in the aesthetics, plot, and gameplay, to be sure, but also on an intellectual and emotional level — from rogue Shushus to disorganized Shushus to demons so insane they’re fit to be untied.”

The Kingdom of Despair, Void Spiral, Citadel of Horror, Dementya, and the Route of the Dead are all described in detail in the studio’s dev blog. You may recognize certain things if you saw the four-season Wakfu anime.

“In our heads, we’ve all seen the animated series version. A distinct personality and a universe that is immediately identifiable. ‘What if this realm was far larger than what we’ve seen so far?’ was our thought here. Obviously, the horrible element was retained for Rushu’s location. But why not create different types of settings based on that? It was an excellent chance to expand on a fundamental notion that was already intriguing and appealing. So we made a delicious Shustuft Crust, but it wasn’t the one everyone was anticipating!”
