Universal Monsters Movies Reportedly Premiering on Physical 4K UHD This Fall. The Universal Monsters are set to premiere this fall on physical 4K UHD Blu-ray discs.
For the first time, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing four classic Universal Monsters films in tangible 4K Ultra HD. Dracula and Frankenstein, both celebrating their 90th birthdays in 2021, will be available on 4K UHD discs as part of a Universal Monsters Classics Collection that also includes The Invisible Man and an 80th-anniversary version of The Wolf Man from Universal Studios. The four-movie Universal Monsters Classics Collection on 4K will be released in late September or early October, according to The Digital Bits.
According to a French listing for the collection on Blu-ray.com, the Universal Monsters Classics Collection contains five cuts and a total of eight discs. Individual steelbook copies of the four films have been discovered on the German store Collectors-Junkies, with a worldwide release date of October 14 anticipated.
Universal previously released the nine-movie Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection Blu-ray in 2012 to commemorate its most famous monsters. In 2018, the studio published a Blu-ray of the Complete 30-Film Collection, as well as a re-release of the Essential Collection with new artwork by renowned comic book artist Alex Ross.
The 4K collection, which is anticipated to appear in the United States this autumn, has yet to be formally confirmed by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Below are official descriptions for the four films (from of Universal), as well as artwork for the separate foreign releases (courtesy of Collectors-Junkies).
Dracula is a fictional character created by Bram Stoke (1931)
(Photo courtesy of Collectors-Junkies/Universal Pictures Home Entertainment) Dracula is played by Bela Lugosi in the 1931 original film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s famous story. Castle Dracula, looming ominously amid the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains, inspires dread among the Transylvanian peasants below. After a naïve real estate agent succumbs to Count Dracula’s will, the two go to London, where the vampire intends to walk among respectable society during the day and hunt for prospective victims during the night. The film, directed by horror expert Tod Browning, produces an eerie, frightening atmosphere that has seldom been duplicated since, and it is considered a classic not just of the genre, but of all time. prevnext

Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) experiments with life and death by constructing a human monster (Karloff) from dead body parts. Frankenstein is a classic not just of the genre, but of all time, thanks to director James Whale’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s book and Boris Karloff’s sympathetic depiction of a monster searching for its identity. prevnext

He comes in a tiny English hamlet, covered in bandages and thick glasses, and tries to conceal his wonderful find. He quickly discovers, however, that the same medication that makes him invisible also causes him to perpetrate terrible crimes of horror. The Invisible Man is a masterpiece not just of the genre, but of all time, based on H.G. Wells’ famous book and features pioneering visual effects. prevnext
The Wolf Man is a fictional character (1941)
(Photo courtesy of Collectors-Junkies/Universal Pictures Home Entertainment) “Even a pure-hearted man who prays at night may turn into a wolf when the wolfbane blossoms and the autumn moon shines brightly.” The Wolf Man, released in 1941, introduced the world to a new Universal cinematic monster, and forever changed the legend of the werewolf. This tale of a cursed man who turns into a dangerous werewolf when the moon is full has not only become a classic of the horror genre, but of all time, thanks to a devastating performance by Lon Chaney Jr. and pioneering make-up by Jack Pierce.
